Roots and Rights

Roots & Rights is a community‑anchored anti‑racism and empowerment project supporting Africans and people of African descent in Finland. The project strengthens resilience, rights awareness, healing from racial trauma, leadership capacity, and advocacy through trainings, community dialogues, healing circles, and public engagement.

AFARS ry leads this work in collaboration with community organizations, activists, experts, and local institutions. The aim is to support community wellbeing, address racial trauma, amplify African voices in Finland, and influence structural change. The project is funded by Government discretionary funds for the year 2026.

We are now seeking a Part‑Time Project Coordinator to join the team for the next implementation phase.

Role Overview

The Project Coordinator will support the planning, logistics, communication, and delivery of activities across all three actions of the project:

  • Action 1: Community Leadership Anti‑Racism Training
  • Action 2: Community Dialogues & Healing Circles
  • Action 3: Advocacy & Policy Influence (including Anti‑Racism Week events)

This role is ideal for someone passionate about anti‑racism, community empowerment, and social justice—and comfortable working in a grassroots, fast‑moving project environment.

Key Responsibilities

As part-time Project Coordinator, you will:

  • Coordinate planning, scheduling, and delivery of project activities across all three Actions.
  • Manage event logistics: venues, partner coordination, registrations, materials, catering, and documentation.
  • Support outreach and community mobilization through AFARS networks.
  • Assist in coordinating the Week against racism activities in March 2026
  • Assist with website updates, social media posts, and dissemination materials as part of the project’s communication strategy.
  • Collect and compile data for reporting, including attendance, feedback, and evaluation metrics.

Qualifications

Based on project requirements, the ideal candidate has:

  • A relevant university degree in social sciences, social services, community development, or related fields.
  • Proven experience in project coordination, preferably in anti‑racism, community work, migrant inclusion, or social justice initiatives.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with African diaspora communities in Finland.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an intercultural environment.
  • Proficiency in English; Finnish and/or African community languages are an advantage.
